(WNFL)- Milwaukee Brewers’ manager Craig Counsell says he’s impressed by the youngest player on his roster. Twenty-two year old Luis Sardinas has started five games at shortstop in place of Jean Segura, who’s on the 15-day disabled list with a broken finger. Sardinas, a switch-hitter, has six hits in 14 at-bats for a .429 average. And he has made every play in the field so far, without an error. Counsell says Sardinas plays “almost older than he is,” and he’s impressive by the way his young player has carried himself. Sardinas began the season in Triple-“A” after being a part of the Milwaukee squad at Spring Training. Counsell says Sardinas has improved, even since then. First base coach Mike Guerrero spent 17 years in Milwaukee’s farm system and he says Sardinas ranks with Alcides Escobar and Michael Brantley in terms of having natural instincts for the game. Sardinas was one of three players traded from Texas in January, in the deal that sent Yovani Gallardo to the Rangers. The Brewers open a four-game Memorial Day Weekend series in Atlanta tonight, after taking 2-of-3 at Detroit. Right-hander Matt Garza starts for the Crew against Braves’ right-hander Julio Teheran.
