STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) — Former congressman David Obey will be in Stevens Point this weekend to both take part in UW-Stevens Point’s commencement and receive an honorary doctorate.
University officials say Obey will start his appearances on Friday at 1 pm with a special session on the sixth floor of the Albertson Learning Resources Center for a public presentation of his letters and other papers from his long term in Congress. Some of the speakers at that event will be UWSP Chancellor Bernie Patterson, Eric Giordano from the Wisconsin Institute for Public Policy and Service, and Matt Blessing from the Wisconsin Historical Society.
On Saturday, Obey will be the keynote speaker for the UW-Stevens Point commencement ceremonies at 9:30 am and 2 pm. Obey will also be receiving an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from the University during the morning commencement session.
More than 1400 students are graduating this semester.
