Hard to believe the game was tied halfway through but the Los Angeles Dodgers erupted in the closing innings to rout the Milwaukee Brewers 14-4 Thursday afternoon at Miller Park to gain a split in the four game series, the first under new manager Craig Counsell. Catcher Yasmani Grandal did the heavy lifting for the visitors, driving in eight runs on the day. Grandal was four for four with a pair of walks. His two run double in the 6th only started the furious finish, he hit two run home runs in both the 8th and 9th frames. Alex Gurrero also went deep for L.A. Mike Fiers (1-4) took the loss giving up five runs in six plus innings. He did strike out 8 including a perfect inning, fanning the side on three pitches each. Fiers got himself in trouble though by issuing five walks. Adam Lind went two for three with his sixth home run of the year. The Brewers are the first major league team to reach 20 losses against their nine wins. Milwaukee optioned Rob Wooten to Triple A Colorado Springs after the game and recalled Brandon Kintzler. The Brewers open a weekend series with their division rivals, the Chicago Cubs. Jimmy Nelson will face Jason Hammel in the series opener Friday night. Pre-game coverage begins at 6:35 PM on WTAQ.
