MADISON, WI (WTAQ) – Despite almost two weeks of dry weather, drought conditions have not gotten worse in Wisconsin — but they’re not any better, either.
The U.S. Drought Monitor said Thursday that most of the northern half of the Badger State remains in a moderate drought.
Abnormally dry conditions continue in much of northeast Wisconsin, along with generally the southern half of the state except for much of 8 counties bounded by Alma and Viroqua to the west, and Wisconsin Dells and Big Flats to the east.
Meanwhile, the dry weather has helped farmers get their crops in the ground.
The government said 42 percent of the state’s corn crop was planted as of last Sunday. That’s up from just 5 percent the previous week.
This year trails only 2010 for the largest percentage of the Wisconsin corn crop planted by May 3rd.
