The Green Bay Gamblers drafted Appleton native and former Green Bay Notre Dame high school star Brett Gruber with their first pick in Tuesday’s USHL Phase II entry draft. After finishing his prep career, Gruber joined the Victoria Grizzlies of the British Columbia Junior League where he scored 35 goals with 32 assists in 57 games. Green Bay coach Pat Mikesch also selected former Ashwaubenon Jaguar goaltender Ryan Wischow in the ninth round. He was one of two goalies selected by Green Bay Tuesday. In the second round, Mikesch added more scoring punch with forward Jared Spooner of Bismark, North Dakota. In all, Green Bay chose six forwards, four defensemen and two netminders in the draft which followed the USHL Futures draft on Monday allowing all league teams to reach 45 players on their roster.
