After drafting eight players over the weekend, General Manager Ted Thompson has filled out his rookie roster by signing 16 undrafted college free agents and inviting a handful more to Green Bay for a tryout. Among the signings were three running backs, John Crockett who rushed for 1994 yards and 21 touchdowns last season at North Dakota State, Malcolm Agnew of Southern Illinois and Raymond Maples of Army who ran for 2878 yards in his career. Linebacker James Vaughters of Stanford has also signed. He played both defensive end and linebacker for the Cardinal last year. The Packers will add five more wide receivers, two more defensive backs and four offensive linemen to the group. Alabama quarterback Blake Sims received an invitation to the Pack’s rookie orientation and mini-camp.
Corner Ladarius Gunter from the University of Miami was among the players reportedly signing on Saturday. His agent, Malki Kawa, said Gunter wanted to follow the same route as Sam Shields — an undrafted free agent from the Hurricanes who’s now a 10-million-dollar-a-year starting corner for Green Bay. Kawa said he believes Gunter will get a fair chance to make the Packers even though general manager Ted Thompson used his first two draft picks on DB’s Damarious Randall of Arizona State and Quinten Rollins of Miami (OH).
