MADISON, WI (WTAQ) – Police and protesters in Madison are getting ready for what might happen when the district attorney announces a decision on charges in the police shooting of Tony Robinson.
State Justice officials are planning to meet Friday with Dane County DA Ismael Ozanne, to present the state’s investigative reports into the March 6th incident.
The attorney general has said his agency would not make a recommendation on charges. That’s Ozanne’s call — and Madison Police Chief Mike Koval says he’d like a 24-hour notice of that announcement.
Koval tells the Wisconsin State Journal he wants to meet with community groups and have officers ready to respond. Madison’s Young, Gifted, and Black Coalition, which has organized many of the protests after Robinson’s death, held a strategy session this week.
The State Journal says coalition members do not expect white officer Matt Kenny to be charged in the shooting of the bi-racial Robinson — but the chief has asked people not to make judgments until all the facts come out. That won’t happen until after the DA decides on charges.
Chief Koval says it might not happen for a couple weeks, until toxicology test results are completed for Robinson.
