MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) – Freedom has its price sometimes.
That lesson was repeated Friday for people who waited hours to testify at a finance committee hearing in Milwaukee on the proposed state budget.
Folks who parked on the streets around the hearing room at Alverno College were greeted with $25 parking tickets if they were there for longer than 2 hours.
The Journal Sentinel said Assembly Democrat Fred Kessler saw what was going on, and put a stop to it. Kessler was reportedly so upset, he asked a parking checker to speak to her supervisor.
Kessler told that person, “The place is packed, and people are having to wait hours to speak. They shouldn’t be penalized with parking tickets, after waiting hours to be heard by their elected officials.”
Kessler said the supervisor agreed, and promised to void any tickets given out during the hearing.
