Senior Keifer Sykes of Chicago was named the Horizon League’s Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. The Green Bay Phoenix star led the league in scoring, climbing over 2000 points for his career. He’s the first player to win back to back player of the year awards since Rashad Phillips of Detroit in 2000-2001. Sykes also picked up his record extending 13th player of the week award for the final week of the regular season. He wasn’t the only Green Bay player honored. Senior Greg Mays was named to the All Horizon second team while Junior Jordan Fouse was selected to the all-defensive team for the third straight year.
Joining Sykes on the first team were two players from Cleveland State, Trey Lewis and Anton Grady, Kahlil Felder of Oakland and Alec Peters of Valparaiso rounded out the squad. Bryce Drew of Valpo was named coach of the year.
The Horizon League tournament tips off Tuesday night with first round games. Valparaiso will host the semifinals and finals if they advance as the number one seed. Green Bay is the second seed and has a double bye to Saturday’s semifinal round.
