Wisconsin native Tim Smyczek is heading home, after he lost both his singles’ and doubles’ matches in the first round at Wimbledon. This morning, the Milwaukee-born Smyczek fell to Fabio Fognini of Italy 6-4, 6-3, 6-2. Yesterday, Smyczek and his doubles’ partner Jiri Vesely lost in three sets to Florin Mergea and Rohan Bopanna in their first round, 6-3, 7-6(1), 6-1. The 27-year-old Smyczek rose to the Number-72 singles’ player in the world, after he almost upset Rafael Nadal in the second round at the Australian Open in January. He’s 305th in the world in doubles. Smyczek, who now lives in the Tampa Bay area, has won 26 career matches as a pro — including four this year, against nine losses.
