WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) — The man that led officers from three counties on a nearly 50 mile long high speed chase has changed his pleas. 59-year-old Randall Wilson of Clintonville was in Marathon County Circuit Court Tuesday, where he changed his not-guilty pleas to not guilty by reason of insanity.
Police say Wilson took a black GMC Yukon from a Clintonville dealership and eluded several police agencies on March 17th. The chase ended in Rib Mountain next to the Highway 51 northbound on ramp from Rib Mountain Drive.
Wilson was found competent to stand trial in March. Wilson’s attorney told the court his client has bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. According to court documents, Wilson told officers he heard voices on the radio that told him to keep going. He claimed he was going home, which he claimed was in South Dakota near his mother with the Oglala Sioux nation.
Wilson remains in jail on a $50,000 cash bond.
A status conference on the case has been scheduled for June 24th in Marathon County court with Judge Greg Huber.
