The Bay Port Pirates and Freedom Irish captured state team titles at the WIAA State Track and Field meet this weekend at UW LaCrosse. The Pirates won the Division 1 boys meet with 67 points, the most scored since 2002 and they brought the metro area it’s first team title since Green Bay West won the Class A meet in 1954. Bay Port got a pair of first place finishes from Zach Lorbeck in the high jump and long jump and Cole Van Lanen in the shot put and discus. Other D1 highlights included a gold medal effort from the Ashwaubenon Jaguars 1600 relay team of James Morgan, Jose Guzman, Nate Holly and Jon Gregory. In the girls meet, Natisha Heideman of Green Bay Southwest won a second straight triple jump title. She also finished 4th in the long jump and fifth in the high jump.
In Division 2, Freedom piled up 66 points to win the team championship, 20 points more than Milwaukee Lutheran. The Irish got first place finishes from Colin Hofacker in the 200 and 400, Sam Hiniz in the 800 and the 1600 meter relay team. Scott Heiptas of Little Chute won gold in the triple jump. In the D2 girls meet, Wrightstown’s Brielle Buechler captured the pole vault title and Tess Keyzers of Little Chute won gold in the shot put.
