WAUWATOSA, WI (WTAQ) – The Medical College of Wisconsin plans to open a new school for prospective pharmacists.
The school’s trustees have approved a facility that would open in 2017 or ’18.
Officials say they’re conducting a national search for a dean — and the first class would have around 60 students.
Medical College president John Raymond says the suburban Milwaukee school has the “expertise and experience” to train the next generation of pharmacists.
The school says there’s a need for highly qualified pharmacists in the Badger State — and the ones who are here are not distributed equally throughout Wisconsin.
The Medical College plans to spend $3 million in endowment funds for the design and initial development of the new pharmacy school. The total price tag is expected to be around $30 million over a five-year period.
