WAUSAU, WI (WTAQ) – A kayaker is more than a-third of the way through a 430 mile fundraising trip on the Wisconsin River.
Vince Lofquist of Tomahawk is in his 6th day paddling the entire stretch of the river from Vilas County to Prairie du Chien. He’s raising money for the American Cancer Society, in which his wife Carol is deeply involved.
Lofquist said the first part of the Wisconsin was full of sharp turns and rough sailing as he went over beaver dams. Once he passed Rhinelander, the water calmed down — and it was wider and slower as he approached Wausau.
Lofquist plans to complete his journey a week from Thursday.
Among other things, he’s selling dog paws for people to write messages that stick onto his kayak.
