MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) – An autopsy is set for Monday in the apparent suicide of Michael Lutz — a former Milwaukee police officer, defense attorney, and Common Council candidate.
The medical examiner says the 44-year-old Lutz shoots himself in the presence of Menomonee Falls SWAT team officers. He’s pronounced dead at 4:05 a.m. Sunday.
Lutz has been off the Milwaukee police force since 2005, following a chase with a suspected drug dealer in which he’s shot in one of his arms.
He later becomes a lawyer, accusing Milwaukee County DA John Chisholm of a political agenda in the John Doe probe of Scott Walker’s ex-aides and associates during the governor’s time as county executive.
This month, Lutz is on the ballot for the late Joe Dudzik’s Milwaukee Common Council seat. Lutz finishes fourth as two others advance to a general election.
