LADYSMITH, WI (WTAQ) – A Rusk County man has been sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison, for breaking into the Elk Mound police department and stealing a revolver.
Prosecutors said 24-year-old Darren Bishop of Ladysmith wanted to sell the .22-caliber gun in exchange for methamphetamines. He pleaded guilty in April to possessing a firearm as a previously convicted felon.
Federal Judge Barbara Crabb told him to pay back over $10,000 for the damage he caused at the police station last November.
Bishop also has state charges pending in Rusk County on charges filed in January for burglary, theft, and vehicle theft. Online court records indicate a plea deal. A hearing on it is set for August 10th.
His online file also indicates a previous conviction in neighboring Minnesota. His current address is listed as the Gopher State’s correctional facility in St. Cloud.
