(WNFL) – As expected, Francisco Rodriguez is the Brewers’ only representative in next Tuesday night’s Major League All-Star Game in Cincinnati. K-Rod was given his second straight invitation last night, after he was among four Brewers to play for the National League a year ago. The 33-year-old Rodriguez has converted all 18 of his save opportunities this season, with an ERA of 1.45 and 36 strikeouts in 31 innings. It’s K-Rod’s sixth career All-Star bid in his 14th big league campaign. In other Brewers’ news,
Brewers’ starter Matt Garza says he’s been pitching with the right shoulder tendinitis that finally landed him on the disabled list. The Brewers said yesterday that the veteran right-hander would go on the 15-day DL, retroactive to last Friday. With the All-Star break coming up, Garza is expected to have almost three weeks between starts. He said he would only miss one scheduled start, then return at the rear of the Milwaukee rotation following the break. Garza is 0-3 since June fifth with a bloated 6.06 ERA in his last six starts. He said he had a chance to skip a start earlier this year to give his throwing shoulder some extra rest — and he turned it down. For the year, Garza is 4-10 in 18 appearances with a 5.55 ERA.
