MADISON, WI (WTAQ) – Governor Scott Walker and Republicans in the Wisconsin Legislature have backtracked on plans to include an amendment to the state budget that would have limited open records access.
They quickly hammered out the agreement after receiving strong backlash Friday.
Walker, Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, Assembly Speaker Robin Vos and the co-chairs of the Joint Finance Committee say the objectionable passages will be completely removed before the budget goes to a vote.
The unrest from members of both parties had become a serious distraction for the governor.
He is expected to formally announce he is running for the Republican nomination for president one week from Monday.
