MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) – It appears the Milwaukee Bucks have found the veteran center they’ve been looking for.
Yahoo Sports said Thursday morning that the Bucks have agreed to a three-year, $50 million deal with free agent center Greg Monroe from the Detroit Pistons.
The 25-year-old Monroe has spent five years in the NBA, all with Detroit. He averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds a game for the Pistons last season. The reported contract would give Monroe a player option in his third year.
The Bucks beat out the L.A. Lakers, Portland, and New York for Monroe’s services.
The Journal Sentinel said the Bucks will be able to sign Monroe with their available salary cap space — and shooting guard Khris Middleton would sign under the Larry Bird clause that lets teams go over the cap to keep their own free agents.
None of this will be made available at least until next Thursday, when players can start signing actual contracts for the first time.
