SHEBOYGAN, WI (WTAQ) – A preliminary report is due out soon on the crash of a sight seeing plane in Alaska that killed a Sheboygan native.
63-year-old Margie Apodaca and her husband Ray were celebrating their 16th wedding anniversary when they were among nine people to die in the crash.
Authorities said a turbo prop “float plane” went down last Thursday in mountainous terrain. It was heading back from the Misty Fjords National Monument when it crashed in a steep, muddy area about 25 miles from Ketchikan Alaska.
The National Transportation Safety Board is trying to find out how and why the craft went down.
Margie Apodaca grew up as Margie Jaeger in Sheboygan. Her family said she worked for the U.S. Forest Service on the West Coast for most of her adult life. She retired recently.
