LA CROSSE, WI (WTAQ) – There’s something to be said for political loyalty.
And observers note that President Obama is rewarding House Democrat Ron Kind of La Crosse with a visit to his home town Thursday afternoon.
Kind was among 28 Democrats to break party ranks last month on foreign trade. He sided with Obama on giving him broad negotiating powers that could yield some new major trade agreements.
The bill yielded lots of support from business leaders, and the president is said to be looking to mend fences with organized labor. His aides say Obama is still in virtual lockstep with unions when it comes to looking out for middle class families.
The president speaks at UW-La Crosse about his proposal to allow overtime pay for another 5 million Americans — a plan that unions have hailed and business leaders condemned.
Obama is also expected to tout Thursday morning’s news that the nation created 223,000 new jobs in June.
