MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) – If you plan to fly to the East Coast today — or pick somebody up from there — you might want to check with your airline first.
Thousands of flights are canceled between Philadelphia and Boston, where up to two feet of snow and high winds have rolled in.
The National Weather Service says what could be an historic Nor’easter will cause widespread coastal flooding through Tuesday, with blizzard warnings in place until then.
The storm affects air traffic throughout the nation — including here in Wisconsin.
At the state’s largest airport, Milwaukee’s Mitchell International has 9 departing flights canceled today and tonight to New York, Newark, and Boston. At least one flight to Philadelphia has been delayed more than two hours as of mid-morning.
Also, Mitchell says 7 incoming flights from New York, Newark, and Boston have been scrapped through mid-evening.
You can check the latest flight information out of Green Bay, Appleton, or Milwaukee by clicking on those airport links.
Meanwhile, Wisconsin is getting a much smaller dose of winter. But it has its own set of problems, as freezing rain followed a brief band of snow into the Badger State from the west.
Osseo had just over 2 inches of new snow by mid-morning, and Bloomer in Chippewa County had 2 inches. Many other places had lighter amounts, down to a trace.
Most of Wisconsin was expecting at least some precipitation through tonight. Dry and mild weather should then prevail for the rest of the week.
