GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – A Milwaukee man will spend just over nine years in prison for providing the heroin that killed a man from northeast Wisconsin.
23-year-old Arthur Graham Jr. had pleaded guilty to first-degree reckless homicide in the overdose death of Jeremy Schleis in Lawrence in Brown County last March.
Graham was sentenced to 10 years in prison, plus 10 years of extended supervision. His prison time was reduced by the 320 days he spent in jail while his case was going through the courts.
Prosecutors said Graham sold heroin to Schleis in Milwaukee the night before the user died.
The 10-year prison sentence was twice as long as what the prosecution and defense recommended — and the supervision time was 5 years shorter.
Brown County Circuit Judge Marc Hammer said his sentence more closely reflected Graham’s “critical role” in the loss of Schleis’ life.
