The Green Bay Phoenix women’s basketball team continued it’s remarkable run of success by capturing the Horizon League Tournament championship in Detroit Tuesday afternoon, rolling over Wright State 62-44 for it’s fourth consecutive tourney title, the 16th in the last 21 years.
Unlike their first two games in the tournament, Tuesdsay afternoon’s final had Green Bay start fast, building an 18-8 lead after the first quarter and dominating to the final buzzer at Little Ceasars Arena.
Senior Allie LeClaire scored 24 points and was named the tournament MVP. Fellow senior Jessica Lindstrom added 12 points and 14 rebounds for her 18th double-double of the season and Jen Welnitz delivered 8 assists and had four steals. All three were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Green Bay (29-3) secured it’s 18th appearance in the NCAA tournament and the will find out where they are seeded and who they will play on Monday.
