OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) – A jury in eastern Wisconsin has ruled that a woman knew what she was doing, when she shot and wounded a Walmart co-worker in 2013.
48-year-old Justine Boyd of Neenah had pleaded no contest to attempted homicide. But she sought mental treatment instead of prison, claiming she was insane when she shot Sharon Goffard in the store’s liquor department.
At her sanity trial, two doctors testified that Boyd suffered from severe paranoid delusions. Her attorney told jurors that her paranoia prevented her to stop what she was doing.
A Winnebago County prosecutor said the store’s video showed that Boyd’s actions were deliberate — and that she knew the shooting was wrong.
Jurors deliberated for four-and-a-half hours before ruling that she may have been mentally ill at the time, but she knew her actions were wrong.
Boyd faces prison time when she’s sentenced on April 23rd.
