GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The investigation is underway after an officer-involved fatal shooting of a Green Bay man Tuesday night.
On Wednesday, the Green Bay Police Department released more information about the incident that led up to the death of 30-year-old Joseph Biegert.
The officers involved were a 28-year-old man with 5 years’ experience on the force and a 24-year-old man who’s been with the department for 2 years.
The call came in around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday for officers to check on Biegert, who had allegedly taken medication in an attempt to harm himself. Upon arrival, investigators say Biegert attacked one of the officers, stabbing him in the upper arm with a knife. The cops then shot Biegert in attempt to stop the threat.
Biegert died at the scene, in the 1500 block of Plymouth Lane.
The officers involved were taken to the hospital, where they were treated and released.
The Green Bay Police Department has placed officers to administrative duty while the incident is investigated.
Following state law, the state Division of Criminal Investigation is now looking into the incident.
A spokesperson with the Wisconsin Department of Justice on Wednesday would not comment beyond what the Green Bay Police Department put out in a release.
