SUN PRAIRIE, WI (WTAQ) – The mayor of Sun Prairie has lost his re-election bid.
Jon Freund made international news on February 2nd, when Jimmy the Groundhog bit him in his left ear during the city’s annual weather-predicting ceremony.
Tuesday, he finished third in a three-way mayoral primary. Freund got 464 votes, to 500 for second-place Bill Clausius and 814 for former Mayor Paul Esser.
Clausius and Esser will face each other for Sun Prairie’s mayoral post in the general election on April 7th.
Freund was appointed as the mayor last spring, after he served eight years on the City Council.
