JANESVILLE, WI (WTAQ) – A Beloit man went against his lawyer’s advice Tuesday and pleaded guilty to his original homicide charge for killing his father with a hammer.
30-year old Peter Hemmy faces a life prison term when he’s sentenced on April 24th.
Prosecutors said Hemmy went to Beloit Police last August to report that he killed his father by hitting him on the head 3 or 4 times with a hammer. Officers later went to the family’s house and found the body of 58-year-old Bruce Hemmy.
According to Rock County prosecutors, Peter said he was upset because his parents were about to move — and he’d have no place to live.
In the defendant’s words, he “kind of regretted” killing his father.
Last week, a judge ruled that Hemmy was mentally competent to stand trial. Tuesday, he waived a preliminary hearing and entered his guilty plea.
