MADISON, Wis. (WSAU) — Flags are at half-staff Tuesday, in honor of a fallen police officer.
Governor Scott Walker signed the order Monday to lower flags in honor of McFarland Police Department officer Ryan Copeland. Copeland died during a traffic crash while on duty last week. He was also the department’s K9 handler, but Boris, the dog was not in the squad car at the time. Copeland was on his way to pick him up.
Walker says, “Officer Copeland’s legacy shows his true dedication to serving and protecting both his community and his country. We thank him and his family for his service in the United States Army, including his time as a Special Forces Green Beret, as well as for his time spent on the force in McFarland. Tonette and I send our thoughts and prayers to his family and friends as they mourn his loss.”
Officer Ryan Copeland will be laid to rest following a memorial service in his hometown of Janesville Tuesday, December 1st.
