MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) – The manufacturing economy of southeast Wisconsin and northern Illinois is ending its fifth straight month of declines.
That’s according to the monthly index released Monday by Marquette University and the regional Institute for Supply Management.
The overall manufacturing index for August is 47.67. That’s slightly higher than the 47.12 from July — but anything under 50 shows a decline in the factory sector.
Industries report inconsistent growth, with activity going from fast to slow and back again.
Almost 4 of every 10 manufacturing executives say they expect positive conditions in the next six months. 8 percent predict worse conditions, and 54 percent say things should be about the same.
