(WNFL) – Time is running out on former Wisconsin Badger wide receiver Jared Abbrederis. The Wautoma native went down on the first day of training camp with a concussion and hasn’t been cleared to practice since. Abbrederis missed all of his rookie campaign last season after tearing his ACL. Packers coach Mike McCarthy has been complementary of Abbrederis during the process, saying “Jared is a very good football player. He’s one of those players you can see, obviously you saw in college and just the time he’s been on the field here, it comes easy to him. It’s natural. He’s instinctive. His route running, connecting with the quarterback in the passing game, he probably did that as quickly as anybody we’ve had around here.” Abbrederis suffered a concussion while playing at Wisconsin too. He missed one game as a result. The Packers are expected to keep just five receivers and at this point, it is hard to imagine Abbrederis being in that mix. But if he is able to return and the Packers really like him that much, they could carry a sixth receiver or place him on season ending injured reserve for the second straight year, just to keep him around. With the second preseason game approaching, it is not certain when Abbrederis will be cleared for action.
