Haven, WI (WNFL) – Steve Stricker was met by a standing ovation on Sunday as he walked up the 18th fairway at Whistling Straits. Wisconsin golf fans showed their appreciation for the Madison area native, who shot a final-round two-under-par 70 to finish four-under for the tournament. Stricker started his final round strong, dipping to five-under par for the round and seven-under for the tournament through 12 holes. But Stricker ran into trouble after three-straight birdies and he was unable to regain his momentum. Stricker heads into the offseason feeling much better about his future and after playing in only nine events this year, he hopes to play in more events next year. His next playing appearance won’t likely come until the Shark Shootout in Florida in December. Stricker has run out of exempt status for all four majors, but says he still wants to try to qualify for the majors, with the U.S. Open at Erin Hills in 2017 at the top of his list. Stricker said, “I’ll continue to try to get into these majors, but, I don’t know, it could be my last.”
Stricker was happy with his play at the PGA Championship
