MADISON, WI (WTAQ) – Marquette and Richland counties are the latest to catch the tree-killing emerald ash borer.
Both beetles entered routine traps set up by the state.
The Richland County discovery came July 28th in a group of ash trees along Highway 14 west of Richland Center. The Marquette County ash borer was found July 29th about a mile west of Montello.
Richland County remains under a previous EAB quarantine, while Marquette becomes the 38th Wisconsin county on the list.
It means that residents cannot take firewood from the two counties. Commercial ash products must be certified as pest free before they can sold in non-quarantined counties.
