UNDATED (WSAU-Wheeler News) A former central Wisconsin school superintendent who’s doing missionary work in Nepal made it through the earthquake okay. Bob Clinton ran the Athens School District in Marathon County from 1991-to-’96. He and his wife Bobbie later moved to Katmandu, where they stayed until 2008. They’re now back in the U-S, living in North Carolina — but they still manage homes for children in Nepal.
Bobbie Clinton tells the Wausau Daily Herald her husband just landed at the Katmandu airport when the quake hit, after checking on another youth home in the country. He was riding in a taxi when he saw debris fly horizontally in a massive cloud of dust. His wife said Bob Clinton was not hurt — and neither were the residents and staffers at the homes operated by First Love International Ministries, founded by Bob Clinton’s brother Tom.
Bobbie said almost everybody at the Katmandu children’s home slept outside Monday night, in case another aftershock hit. She wrote on Facebook that the situation is getting more difficult as food, water, and sanitation facilities are getting harder to come by. Internet communication remains spotty.
