MADISON, Wis. (WSAU-Wheeler News) — Law enforcement authorities want you to see how hard it is to make shoot-or-don’t-shoot decisions. Groups protesting recent shootings of black suspects by police say they’re just trying to divert the discussion.
The Dane County Sheriff’s Department included community leaders and media members in a four-hour training session on use-of-force policies last week. The department says it is just trying to build understanding of the training it gives on how its deputies should deal with split-second life and death decisions.
The shooting of 19-year-old Tony Robinson by Madison police officer Matt Kenny brought on several protests. The Dane County district attorney is still considering whether to file criminal charges against Kenny.
