Jay Bruce and Todd Frazier each hit two out, grand slam home runs against Mike Fiers as the Cincinnati Reds walloped the Milwaukee Brewers 16-10 at Miller Park Tuesday night. There were a total of seven home runs hit with the visitors ripping five of them. Martin Maldanado launched a two run shot and the Brewers closed to within 13-10 with an Ellian Herrera grand slam in the sixth. Zack Cozart then blasted his second long ball of the night to give the Reds more breathing room in the seventh. Fiers gave up 8 runs in four innings to take the loss. Jason Marquis got the win. Milwaukee has now dropped 7 straight to fall to a major league worst record of 2-12. Game three of the series is Wednesday night with Jimmy Nelson facing Johnny Cueto. Pre-game coverage begins at 6:35 PM on WTAQ.
The Brewers will keep Herrera at second base for a while as they placed Scooter Gennett on the 15 day disabled list after he suffered a laceration on his hand somehow striking a soap dispenser in a shower. Gennett is the third opening day starter on the shelf joining Carlos Gomez (hamstring) and Johnathan Lucroy (broken toe). Lucroy may be out of action for 4-6 weeks. The Brewers also designated relief pitcher Brandon Kintzler for his release.
