UNDATED (WSAU) — Today is the deadline to file state and federal income taxes.
You’ll need to make sure to get your tax returns in the mail and postmarked April 15th, or to get your taxes filed online before the day is through. The IRS highly recommends the e-filing option as that makes for faster processing of your returns and can lead to quicker refunds.
While filing your taxes, don’t forget to check out a number of options you have in increasing your refund including the Earned Income Tax Credit, the special deductions for contributing to a 401k or IRA plan, and deductions for new student loans.
If you do need to pay for your taxes this year, be sure to get those payments in or set up a payment plan with the IRS. If your taxes aren’t ready, you can file for a six month extension, but remember that doesn’t put off the payment for any taxes you owe.
