PARK TOWNSHIP, Mich (WSAU-Wheeler News) The Coast Guard used wind from the blades of a helicopter to save two men stuck in the ice while fishing on Lake Michigan. It happened Saturday, about a half-mile from the shore of Park Township near Holland Michigan.
The Coast Guard said wind-and-ice pushed the men’s fishing boat off shore, and it got trapped by ice. The Coast Guard brought in a chopper from Traverse City Michigan, and the crew saw that the wind from the rotor blades was pushing the ice away — so they used the winds to clear a path to get the two men and their 16-foot boat to shore.
