JOHNSON CREEK, Wis. (WSAU) --
An Eau Claire woman died after an unusual car crash with a deer Monday morning.
Wisconsin State Patrol officials say the crash happened in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 94 near Watertown in Jefferson County at 11:32 a.m.
A couple from Eau Claire was traveling in their Ford Crown Victoria in the left lane when a deer crossed its path. The vehicle struck the deer head-on. The deer traveled onto the hood of the vehicle and smashed through the windshield, injuring the driver and front seat passenger.
Troopers say the 54-year-old male driver and 53-year-old female passenger were transported to Aurora Medical Center in Oconomowoc, where the woman died from the injuries. The names of the driver and passenger are being withheld until the family can be notified.
The Johnson Creek Police and Fire Departments assisted Wisconsin State Patrol troopers at the crash scene.
