Milwaukee girl remains on life support after being hit by stray bullet

MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - A 10-year-old girl who was shot in crossfire while on a school playground in Milwaukee was on life support at last word.

Relatives told the Journal Sentinel that third-grader Sierra Guyton was brain dead as of Thursday morning -- but she was still getting medical treatment in the hopes she could pull through. The girl remained at Children's Hospital Thursday.

Police said she was playing at the Clarke Street Elementary School playground around 7 p.m. Wednesday when two boys started shooting at each other -- and Sierra was shot in the head by a stray bullet.

Witnesses said that the suspects were sitting on steps near the playground when a car pulled up and shots were fired. The shooting apparently continued as one of the men crossed the playground -- and Sierra was spotted on the ground near a bench by the monkey bars.

Thursday, the Milwaukee Public Schools offered support for the girl's classmates while keeping the school day as normal as possible.
