GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - It looks like Walmart will have more time to get a Supercenter approved for downtown Green Bay.

Tuesday morning, the Larsen Green Governing Board voted unanimously to extend the retailer's purchase option on the property in the Broadway District through August 25.

"I think there's some language, in terms of finality, that's included in this extension," says On Broadway Inc. Executive Director Christopher Naumann. "Certainly we'll know by then whether or not the city will work with the Walmart proposal in terms of negotiations back and forth."

Naumann says that after Monday night's 4-3 vote by the Green Bay City Council's Advisory Committee in favor of the latest proposal for a 154,000 square foot store that this won't be out there forever.

"If this deal does not happen, there is not a backup right now in terms of an offer," says Naumann. "There's not an option that is anything but the city taking the property over and assuming the debt and I do think for some elected leaders is something they don't want to deal with."

The city's Plan Commission is scheduled to hear a request on June 9 to amend the Planned Unit Development of that site to allow for Walmart to build their proposed Supercenter. That also must be approved by the full city council.
