Special Green Bay City Council Advisory Committee meets today about Walmart

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Today, the Green Bay City Council Advisory Committee will meet to discuss the controversial Walmart issue.

Council President Tom DeWane called the meeting last week, to make a recommendation on the proposed Supercenter in the Broadway District.

Officials say nearly all of the city’s 12 aldermen will attend today's meeting, which is open to the public at 5 p.m. at City Hall.

The council wants to speed up the decision-making process. That’s because Walmart’s purchase option for the Broadway property ends June 14.

Any decision made at the meeting would still need to go before the Plan Commission and full city council.

Alderman Chris Wery also tells WTAQ he wants the City Council to change how the city's 3-members of the Larsen Green Governing Board are selected.

Instead of having the members be appointed by Mayor Jim Schmitt, Wery wants to have them be council members.
