Nebraska-Omaha secure Summit League regular season baseball title

by

Macomb, IL (KWSN) - The UNO Mavricks used a doubleheader sweep of Western Illinois to claim their second consecutive Summit League regular season baseball championship today by scores of 9-0 and 7-1. South Dakota State had a chance of claiming the outright regulars season championship, however Omaha’s results eliminated the Jacks from title contention. SDSU defeated NDSU 5-1 and 6-1 this afternoon.

The Mavricks will now be the #1 seed in the Summit League postseason tournament, which will be played in Sioux Falls starting on May 22nd. The winner of the four team, double-elimination tournament will be the Summit League’s representative in the NCAA Division 1 Baseball Championships. Last year SDSU was the tournament champion and fell in two games at the Eugene Regional.
