FDL County Sheriff's deputy given tickets for fatal '12 crash

FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ) - A Fond du Lac County sheriff's deputy appeared in court Monday and will be cited for causing a fatal crash.

Deputy Ryan Flood was responding to an emergency call in the Town of Eden back in August of 2012. 20-year-old Matthew Koenigs was parked at a stop sign, and as he pulled into the intersection, he was struck by Flood's squad car.

Koenigs died at the scene. Flood admitted he was speeding and didn't have his emergency lights or siren on.

Flood will pay approximately $550 for the citations. He also paid for Koenigs' funeral services and will share his story with other law enforcement.

Attorneys on both sides agreed not to bring criminal charges against Deputy Flood.
