FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ) - Court records show a Fond du Lac woman has been charged after allegedly beating and abusing two of her children, while her husband is charged with not reporting the incidents.

According to a criminal complaint, 46-year-old Jeana Riehl beat two kids, ages 11 and 12, with a horse whip, rolling pin, kitchen utensils and a hunting arrow. Riehl would then allegedly lock them in rooms for weeks at a time and only allowing them to come out for one meal a day.

The complaint states, in an interview with officers, “Jeana downplayed the abuse, however, did admit she had used objects to hit the children because ‘the books’ say you should use something other than the hands. Jeana said all the kids were exaggerating. Jeana admitted that she does have the kids stand in the corner for lengthy amounts of time but stated it was up to five hours and it wasn’t all day. Jeana denied refusing to feed the children or denying them food.”

One of the Riehl's adult children says he and his siblings also received similar physical abuse, but that the children adopted from Africa got the most and worst discipline from their mom. The charges all stem from accusations involving the adopted children.

The daughter says that Troy Riehl knew of the abuse and would criticize his wife for it. The adult son says his dad was aware of the discipline, but did nothing to stop it.

Jeana Riehl faces 11 felony child abuse and child neglect charges. Troy Riehl faces eight charges, including being party to child neglect and failure to prevent abuse. A preliminary hearing for both is scheduled for March 21.

The couple made initial court appearances Thursday, according to online court records. She is being held on a $5,000 cash bond. He was released after posting a $500 cash bond. They have been ordered not to have any contact with the children.

The complaint says authorities investigated a previous complaint of abuse, but a victim and one the Reihl’s biological children said the siblings all lied then at Jeana Riehl’s direction.
