Wisconsin's maple syrup season delayed by cold weather

MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - The long cold winter has apparently put a crimp into Wisconsin's maple syrup season.

Producers say they need a few mild days to get the sap flowing. It's only been above 40 degrees in much of the state for only two days this year -- Monday and Tuesday.

It got colder again Wednesday morning. Temperatures in parts of northern Wisconsin were still in the single digits at 10 a.m. But producers say they'll haul their buckets back to the woods as soon as it warms up again.

Forecasters say the mercury will go back above freezing and into the 40's Thursday. Then, we're supposed to have a few colder days, and we might not see 40 again til next Tuesday.
