Michigan same-sex marriage decision coming in weeks

Same-sex marriage

DETROIT (WKZO) -- The future of the state’s constitutional amendment banning same-sex couples from getting married is expected to be known by the end of next week. Federal Judge Bernard Friedman said Friday he will take at least a week to review the eight days of testimony presented in the case.

Detroit-area nurses April DeBoer and Jayne Rowse sued the state initially seeking to legally be able to adopt each other’s children in the event something happened to either of them, and then expanded the lawsuit to challenge the same-sex marriage ban. They have argued it violates the Equal Protection Clause of the U.S. Constitution.
