MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - A report from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel shows medical malpractice lawsuits have plummeted over the last several years.
According to the paper, there were only 140 lawsuits filed, a 50 percent drop since 1999.
Experts believe state laws in favor of hospitals and doctors are to blame for the decrease, but medical groups say it’s because they are now better at their jobs.
The state’s insurance fund is also doing well. The report indicates it has grown to over $1.15 billion. That’s more than the overall payout in the fund’s 39-year history.
