The WIAA Spring Baseball State Tournament opened Tuesday at Neuroscience Field at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute. In Division 1 quarterfinal play, Janesville Park eliminated Bay Port 4-3. The Pirates lead leads of 1-0 and 2-1 but Parker struck for three runs in the 6th to advance. Bay Port finished the year 22-7. Sun Prairie defeated Stevens Point 5-3, Wimot Union beat Middleton 2-1 and Kimberly routed Hartford 10-0 behind a three hit shutout from Brice Swick. In the semifinals, Sun Prairie ousted Janesville Parker 8-7 while the Papermakers put on another strong showing, routing Wilmot Union 15-1. Mason Schnese went four for five with a home run. The championship game will be played Thursday night. Semifinals in Divisions 2, 3 and 4 are schedule for Wednesday although morning rain could compromise the schedule. Oconto is set to play Racine St. Catherine's in Division 3 at 1:00 PM and Green Bay Notre Dame takes on Jefferson in a Division 2 semifinal. The other division title games will also be played Thursday.
