APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) - Lawyers in Outagamie County said Monday that the county can begin issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
It's a reversal from earlier Monday, when Outagamie County Clerk Lori O'Bright said she wouldn't issue licenses until she received authorization from the state.
O'Bright says she won't waive the customary five-day waiting period except in extreme circumstances. Couples have begun to fill out the paperwork.
Fox Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Appleton says it's celebrating Friday's U.S. District Court, listing Wisconsin's ban on same sex marriage, by performing ceremonies once licenses can be issued.
